GALLERY: OLE BUILDS HIS DREAM

When Rick Bills, President of WoodHaven Log & Lumber, received a call from Denmark in December of 2008, he wasn't sure what to expect. Ole Henneberg had learned of WoodHaven through their Web site and was traveling to the United States to see, touch and select the American cedar that he wished to build his dream home with first hand.

Henneberg's dream was to hand build a log sided house for his family on a large lot in his home city of Sinding, Denmark, northwest of Copenhagen. For a variety of reasons, Henneberg's dream was easier envisioned than realized, including the fact that log homes built with American cedar are all but non-existent in Denmark. But after some creative lot division with a future neighbor, the help of a very flexible land development office in Herning City Hall and WoodHaven's willingness to accommodate and ship overseas, Ole Henneberg was well on his way to realizing his dream.

The order was carefully packed in a freight container and shipped by sea from WoodHaven's Northern Michigan mill, taking 4 weeks to arrive in Denmark. "You have to admire a man who wants to build his family's dream home with his own hands," says Rick Bills. "Let alone travel half way around the world to select the building materials in person!"

Henneberg broke ground on the structure in April of 2009 and regularly sent photos and progress updates, along with positive comments from all who see his handiwork. "Everybody who has seen the house is totally wild with it," says Henneberg. "They like the quality and structure of the wood."

More important than a new customer, a new friendship was born.

The quality of every interaction with each potential or current customer, whether a do-it-yourselfer or professional contractor, is the heart of WoodHaven's customer service philosophy. WoodHaven respects their customers as much as they respect the wood.
