5 reasons why you haven’t bought WoodHaven wood!

1: The pain of working with subpar wood hasn’t hit you yet.

The install didn’t go that well for a bunch of people who have shared stories with us. The subpar wood they chose in order to save a few bucks wasn’t straight.

Wood made the RIGHT way
WoodHaven wood is made the RIGHT way!

That crooked wood that looked “good enough” in the store was tough to install. The pile of rejects was bigger than the stack slated for the project — and they wondered if they’d have enough good pieces to finish it without buying more.

They stood back after their project was done and shook their heads. “We should have bought better wood,” is exactly what came out of one of their mouths. Too late. The wood is now installed.

There might not be a “next time” in that room during their lifetime, but the next room will be WoodHaven wood. It’ll be straight because we custom cut for every project and touch every piece of wood with our hands. Standing trees have to pass our high standards before they enter our mill. Nothing goes out unless we’d use it ourselves.

2: You haven’t felt unhappy with a project made with low-quality wood yet.

What if you created a front porch with railings and an overhang on the front of your house and wished you’d used better wood? We know a guy who spent thousands of dollars on his porch and “really wishes” he’d used WoodHaven wood.

Sure, he saved a few bucks, but he’s not happy with his front porch! He used a low-quality wood that now delivers the sting of disappointment. It’s not as straight or as “tight” as he wanted it to be. The pieces aren’t quite right. He’s not happy with the way it turned out — but he did learn a painful lesson: invest in better wood.

We only know his story because he searched for higher-quality wood products and found us. He decided it was time to use wood that’s dried to a moisture content level unmatched in the industry and produced with care by humans. He said he finally came to a point in his life where quality matters and bought wood for his next project from us.

One of the reasons most of our customers become friends is because they’re happy. What we do is different. The way we make wood is different. We know high-quality wood is crafted with care — and makes people happy.

3: A project you worked hard on hasn’t started to warp or bleed yet.

Only family members, close friends and your contractors will see the sad results of the dripping, bleeding wood — unless it falls on an unsuspecting guest.

If you’ve ever taken someone around the yard to show them plants not doing so well or gorgeous pavers that have started heaving, you know the feeling. You’re hoping they will relate and offer an idea or two.

If you’ve recently used subpar wood made by someone other than us for a project you planned for a long time and worked on for even longer, we’re going to predict the inevitable: there’s a good possibility it’s going to bleed and warp.

We’ve been creating wood for more than 30 years. We can’t declare absolutely none of it will bleed or warp because there will be minimal sap issues with pine. We can say any bleeding you have with pine will be minimal because we’ve perfected the process. The way we kiln dry our wood translates into the lowest moisture content percentages you’ll find; our moisture content is consistently around the 7-12% mark depending on the product.

Wet wood warps and bleeds. Ours doesn’t (except pine — but that’s the nature of pine and ours is minimal compared to any other pine on the market). Sure, it costs a little more, but our customers would rather invest in quality wood that matches the hard work they’re going to put into their project.

4: You don’t believe someone will happily take calls from you and help you through installation if you decide to DIY it.

Where’s the guy in the Big Box store who helped you on day one of your project? Good luck finding him. Good luck finding someone who can talk about wood for more than a minute. They know where it is in the store, but that’s about it.

Eventually you’ll be alone in the aisle, looking down the edges of boards all by yourself as the pile of rejects grows. You might start to worry about getting enough of the right nails and other hardware this DIY project is going to need before you’re done picking through wood.

We understand the frustrations of life in DIY Land these days. It’s why we created a bunch of videos. You’ll find them on the “Installation Tips” page (under the “Contact and More Info” tab) on our website They cover installation tips on inside corners, electric blocks, D-trim, our fastening system, pre-siding, siding, butt ‘n pass corners and more.

If those don’t answer every question you have, we will be happy to take a call from you. We have a reputation for helping customers outside normal business hours. It’s important for us to help you install our product in a way that does justice to all it took to create it.

5: The words “cheap” and “inexpensive” haven’t cost you enough yet.

Do you know someone who thinks they save a ton of money by buying inexpensive clothing? Have you noticed how many times they replace that clothing?

How about “cheap” cars? How are they doing on the road, compared to ones that called for a little more of an investment?

It takes people some time to figure out how much cheap or inexpensive stuff costs in the long run. Some people figure it out by the time they’re in the mid-20s. Others fight the facts for decades.

It seriously pains us to see people pay a little less for wood we know will cause problems for them from installation through years of maintenance. They’ll save a few bucks, but it always comes back to bite them.

Our website is loaded with facts and figures that reinforce our case. We even have a cost estimator you can complete on your own.

When the numbers are done, remember the main reasons why you should buy better wood from us:

Our process greatly minimizes shrinking, warping or bleeding because it is kiln dried to perfection and custom cut for every project. We handle every single piece of wood by hand!

Call us for a sample. Come for a tour of our mill. Whatever you do, don’t be the person who stands back after completing a project with subpar wood and say, “I should have bought better wood.”
