Ma Deeter’s is back — and beautiful

It’s always nice to get the nod for a local project. It’s a bonus when the project involves a local landmark.

Ma Deeter’s restaurant, located about 30 miles east of Grayling, burned to the ground last fall. It was devastating for the community. The building had stood for decades and was dubbed one of the largest commercial log cabin buildings east of the Mississippi.

According to news reports, the local fire chief said there was no stopping the fire once it started.

But there’s no stopping Ma Deeter’s from a classic rise like a phoenix, and we are honored to be a part of it.

They’ve rebuildt with WoodHaven products and are slated to reopen at 4 p.m. on August 23. If a picture is worth a thousand words, seeing it with your own eyes will be priceless. Check out everything of ours they’re using:

2” x 7” D trim in the interior,
3” x 8” hewn half log on the exterior,
half log rafters,
1” x 8” tongue-and-groove end-matched knotty pine on the ceiling, and
2” x 8” quarter log pine on some of the interior walls.

Not only is it gorgeous, it looks solid and sturdy enough to last a few generations. Check out more photos on our Facebook page and stay tuned for the official opening. It’s gonna be quite the party.
