Getting real about wood and weather

Mother Nature likes to drive. She drives what all of us do and when we do it for several months of the year. We know the best time to build and do exterior work, like installing our log siding, is when it’s warmer. It’s not much fun when it’s too cold, too snowy, or too rainy.

Those days are over (we think) for the season. Now is when we start raising our eyebrows and tilting our heads a bit when we look at the schedule to see where we can easily fit fast-turnaround projects into our schedule.

Hardly ever is it a perfect world. Projects sometimes are delayed for reasons beyond our control — like the weather. We keep our promises, prepare custom orders, and then simply keep them safe.

We’re still warehousing wood produced for a project that was scheduled to be done last October. Projects get delayed. Homes sometimes aren’t ready for our incredible half-log siding. It happens.

Four customers delayed projects this winter because of -20 and -30 degree weather. We warehoused their orders that were set to be shipped in February.

Those issues are easy to manage; we can keep our products safe. Our ability to be flexible is great for clients that don’t meet their target.

Sometimes customers order our half-log siding in January, but know they don’t want it until June. Those orders are great. We know exactly when they’ll be ready to go. We’ll be ready when the customer’s job is ready for our wood siding or paneling.

Here’s when we begin to wonder how our busiest season will go: May.

Our peak season runs from April through October. We’ll bend over backwards to fill orders, but would rather deliver our products early or on time.

So here’s what you need to know:

Depending on how much of which product you want, plan for 4-6 weeks to delivery.
If you want your wood siding or paneling installed in June, don’t wait until the end of May to order it.
Consider the timing of all of it.
Ordering “in time” really means in advance.

If your project (usually a remodel or new build) is not on time, please let us know. If we have a problem, we always let our customers know. We keep the flow of info alive. Thus, this blog post.
If you order now, you’re good for delivery in June, July or August.

If someone you know needs a nudge as we enter our peak season, please share this!
