Why the right wood will make your dream project perfect

Before you call a big-box store, lumber yard or us for the price of log siding, there are some questions you should add to your list.

Tongue and groove and end-matched log siding

Why? Because when you call, more than likely you’ll get the pricing for quarter-log siding that is not tongue-and-groove. Your quote will be for what is known as “ship-lap” material.

Ship-lap pieces are made so one piece “laps” over the other. All the fasteners are exposed. You can’t hide anything. The only way it can be installed is by nailing through the face of your log.

It also has a tendency to twist away from walls. There’s nothing to keep it from wanting to twist since the logs are not connected to each other in any way

If you want ship-lap log siding, we can and will quote it if cost is the only determining factor in the purchase. Please understand the installation of this product is what we consider to be less than ideal.

Tongue and groove is the best option available. This not only allows the fasteners to be hidden, but all the logs are locked together so if one wants to move, the others have to follow suit. This also gives a much better seal than the ship-lap style of log siding.

Our custom log home siding comes in a variety of wood types and sizes. It is tongue-and-groove on all four sides. It’s seamless.

When doing your dream project, no matter how big or small, consider making an investment in the right log siding. We’d rather you did. (You’ll be glad you did.)
